Tamago Kake Gohan
By Foodefare
Tamago Kake Gohan, also known as TKG, is a simple Japanese dish consisting of hot rice topped with a raw egg, soy sauce, and sometimes other seasonings. Here's a basic recipe:
Ingredients:
- Cooked Japanese rice (hot)
- Fresh raw egg (ideally pasteurized)
- Soy sauce (to taste)
- Optional: Green onions, nori (seaweed), furikake (rice seasoning), sesame seeds, or other toppings of your choice
Instructions:
- Cook the Japanese rice according to package instructions or using your preferred method. Make sure it's hot and freshly cooked when serving.
- Crack a fresh raw egg into a small bowl, ensuring that there are no shell fragments.
- Pour the hot rice into a serving bowl.
- Immediately after, pour the raw egg over the hot rice. The heat from the rice will partially cook the egg as you mix it in.
- Drizzle soy sauce over the rice and egg mixture according to your taste preferences.
- Gently mix everything together, ensuring that the egg coats the rice evenly.
- If desired, sprinkle additional toppings such as thinly sliced green onions, shredded nori, furikake, or sesame seeds on top for added flavor and texture.
- Serve immediately while still hot.
Note:
It's essential to use fresh, high-quality eggs for this dish, and some people prefer using pasteurized eggs to reduce the risk of foodborne illness. Additionally, Tamago Kake Gohan is often enjoyed as a simple and comforting breakfast or light meal in Japan. Adjust the seasoning and toppings according to your taste preferences. Enjoy!
